Jack Sardyne Hoffman, 88 of Mineral Wells, WV died at the Camden Clark Hospital on March 7, 2018. He was born June 30, 1929 in Middleport, OH and was the son of the late Frederick Raymond Hoffman and Frances Louise McClure Hoffman of Dunbar, WV.He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Rosemary Lee Reed Hoffman in November 2016, his parents, his brother Robert Frederick Hoffman. Jack graduated in 1947 from Dunbar High School in Dunbar, WV and while there attained the rank of Eagle Scout.He served in the US Air Force as a radio operator and instructor and then attended University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana, prior to joining US Industrial Chemicals (later Quantum Chemical Corp.) in Tuscola, IL.From there Jack and Rosemary moved their family to Wilbraham, MA where Jack worked for Rexall Drug and Chemicals and then on to Cherry Hill, NJ to work for ARA Services (later ARAMARK) before returning to their home state of WV in 1981.He became a member of the First United Methodist Church, November 15, 1981 where he had been very active in all aspects of the church.He was an automobile racing enthusiast, a fan of the WV Mountaineers football and basketball teams, an experienced white water rafter, a competitive game and bridge player, a world traveler (Australia in 1989 and China in 2008), and most of all an exceptional story teller.We will miss his quick wit and his laugh. Survivors include his brother William David (Jean) Hoffman of Brunswick, GA; his daughter, Mary Frances (Paul) Stuart of Yarmouth, Maine, his son, David Reed Hoffman of Concord, NC, his grandchildren, Cheryl Marie Hoffman (Francis Nelson Nortz), Melissa Anne Stuart, Daniel Reed Hoffman, Jeffrey Thomas Stuart, and David Reed Buckley.Also surviving are his great grandchildren, Kaylie Marie Hoffman, Jaxson William Gaddis, Rylee Jade Nortz, and Francis’ son, Domnick Allen Nortz, a sister-in-law Doris G. Reed of Parkersburg, three nieces, a nephew and many longtime friends and neighbors. A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. on Monday March 12, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, 1001 Juliana Street with Dr. Damon Rhodes officiating. Interment with full military rites by American Legion Post 15 Parkersburg will follow in the Evergreen North Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Vaughan Funeral Home in Parkersburg and from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations be made to the Parkersburg Urban Ministries, 219 11th Street, Parkersburg, WV 26101 or Salvation Army 534 5th Street, Parkersburg, WV 26101.
