Wirt Cook, 83, of Parkersburg passed away December 2, 2019 at his home with his wife and children by his side. He was born March 4, 1936 in Red Jacket, WV, he is the son of the late Cecil Cook and Alma Cook Cox. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Wirt served in the United States Navy for eleven years.He was a faithful Gospel preacher for over fifty years, he was a member of the North End Church of Christ. Wirt was one of the co-founders of the West Virginia School of Preaching in Moundsville, WV. Left behind to cherish his memory, is his wife Shirley Smith Cook; two sons, Ron Cook (DeDe) of Parkersburg and Andrew Cook (Calandra) of Searcy, AR; three daughters, Debby Warne (Kris) of Georgetown, KY, Eydie McIntire (Steve) and Kelly Jones (Doug) both of Parkersburg; two step sons, Brent Smith (Susan) of Caldwell, OH and Dave Smith (Tiffany) of New Matamoras, OH; 12 grandchildren, Joshua and Emily Warne, Drew and Eric McIntire, Wirt Cook, Marybeth Cook Reck, Landon and Joseph Cook, Trevor and Camille Jones, Teagan and Aislinn Cook; three step grandchildren, Ethan, Emily, and Madison Smith; 10 great grandchildren; one sister, Celia Wisch (Bob); brother in law Chay Donley and sister in law Betty Murphy (Gene). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Faye Cook and stepfather Joe Cox. Funeral services will be Friday December 6, 2019 at 11:00 AM at North End Church of Christ 1301 WV Ave. Parkersburg, WV 26101, officiating will be Doug Jones, Steve McIntire, EvangelistCharles Pugh III andEvangelist Roger Rush. Burial will follow at Parkersburg Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday, December 5, 2019 from 2:00- 8:00 PM at North End Church of Christ and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
