Wilma J. Poe, 86, formerly of South Parkersburg, late of Portales, NM, died September 17, 2018, in the care of Clovis Heathcare & Rehab in Clovis, New Mexico. Wilma had lived in South Parkersburg from her early years until she was 84 and moved to Portales, NM to live with her son. She was born in Doddridge County, West Virginia, the daughter of the later Harley Heflin and Effie Heflin. Wilma was a homemaker for most of her years, much beloved by her late husband, Virgil D. “Jiggs” Poe, and her children and grandchildren. She worked at both G.C. Murphy’s in her youth, and at Prince’s Superette after her husband retired. Wilma was an ardent lover of animals, feeding stray cats and having many of her own. Her son has in his care her last two cats, Davey and Eddy. She was a Protestant by religion, attending South Parkersburg Baptist Church with her late sister, June Harper. Wilma never knew a stranger and always lent a helping hand to those in need. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents and husband, her brothers, James and Harley “Buck” Heflin, and sister June Harper, as well as her beloved grandson, Joshua Ryan Poe. She is survived by her son, Larry Poe, her daughters, Carla Poe and Kathy Poe, as well as her grandson, Jason Poe, his wife, Kara Poe, and their daughter, Mikhaila, granddaughter, Lindsay Poe, her beloved cousin Mary Schoefield and wonderful sister-in-law, Ethel Heflin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family will deeply miss Wilma’s tender and loving care for them, as well as her warm and loving nature. She will be interred at Evergreen South Cemetery, next to her husband, under the auspices of Kimes Funeral Home in a private ceremony. A more expansive ceremony will be scheduled at a later date. The family wishes to thank Clovis Healthcare & Rehab, Interim Healthcare, and Steed-Todd Funeral Home, all of Clovis, for assisting their mother in her final months and funereal rites.
