Virginia C. Kanalz, 85, of Vienna, W.Va. passed away May 31, 2018 at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va. She was born December 20, 1932 at Parkersburg, W.Va., a daughter of the late Julius Eugene and Beulah Kirkpatrick Kanalz. She had attended Alderson Brauddus and Fairmont Universities and interrupted her education to take care of family members. She had been a member of the Girl Scouts for twenty years. Virginia was a long time member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she had been a member of the choir and was a member of the Fellowship of American Baptist Musicians.She was an accomplished musician and enjoyed playing the autoharp, zither and hammer dulcimer.She had attended the Green Lake, Wisconsin Musicians Camp for more than twenty years. Virginia had been employed with Dudley's Florist for fifteen years and was co-owner of a pet store on Vaughan Avenue for many years. She was a dog trainer and enjoyed showing dogs. She is survived by her brother, David Kanalz and his wife, Jody of Parkersburg and several cousins.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Paul Kanalz. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1710 23rd Street, Parkersburg.Dr. Kurt Busiek and Reverend Dr. Heather Murray Elkins will officiate and burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at the church. For those considering an expression of sympathy, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society. The Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Avenue, Parkersburg is assisting the family with arrangements.
