Thomas Michael Shedan, Sr. died on Sunday, August 3, 2014, three days short of his 86th birthday. He was born in Parkersburg, W.Va. on August 6, 1928. He and his late wife, Eleanor, resided in Parkersburg the majority of their lives. They resided in St. Petersburg, Fla. for several years. Tom was a 1946 graduate of Parkersburg High School where he played on the Big Red Football Team.He was a 1953 graduate of Marietta College with a degree in chemistry.He served two years in the US Marine Corps after high school. His employment spanned many years with companies in the Parkersburg area; many of those years, he was in a supervisory position. Tom was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Parkersburg and St. John Vianney Catholic Church in St. Petersburg, Fla. He had been a lay-minister, and faithfully took communion to shut-ins. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Eleanor J. Tawney Shedan; his parents, Thomas Moses Shedan and Golda A. Webb Shedan; a brother, Bernard G. Shedan;and a sister, Joan Shedan Schleicher. He is survived by sons, Thomas M. Shedan, II of Laurel, Md. and Craig W. Shedan (Veronica) of Parkersburg; a brother, Stephen R. Shedan of Pompano Beach, Fla.; sister Martha Shedan Moffa (Richard) of Westerville, Ohio; sister-in-law, Jessie Shedan of Hollywood, Fla.; grandson, James Vincent William Yancy (KaitLynne Hetrick Yancy) and great-grandson, James Vincent William Yancy, II of Virginia Beach, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Monday, August 11, 2014 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 532 Market Street, Parkersburg. Concluding services with military honors presented by Parkersburg Post 15, American Legion and interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 532 Market Street, Parkersburg, WV26101.
