He was a proud and loving Grandpa to James Michael Ransbottom and wife Kristie of Pittsburgh, PA, Amber Lee Abbott of West Hollywood, CA and Christina and Katie Ransbottom and was soon to be a Great Grandpa of baby girl Hilton; all of Easley, SC. Roy was a native of Parkersburg, WV.He graduated from Parkersburg High School in 1953, where he met his future wife of 57 years, Charlyn. He then proudly served our country in the United States Army during the Korean war. He then spent his life raising a loving family and working at DuPont-Washington Works. He retired after 35 years of dedicated service. Roy was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed trout fishing and spending time in the mountains of his treasured West Virginia, often with his boys and other family and friends. He was especially fond of his annual pilgrimages to Canada to spend several days fishing and enjoying the natural wonders that God created. In his later years, Roy could often be found simply walking.Roy would walk miles at a time.No destination or purpose; he simply enjoyed the journey, spending time outside and being lost in his own thoughts.Roy was a simple man, and just spending time outside in the wonders of our world was good enough for him. Roy was also an attentive gardener. His favorite was the cultivation and caring of several species of roses. In the dull haze of a West Virginia summer’s evening he could often be found at his home on Rt. 47 tending, and nurturing several prize-winning roses. He loved their delicate nature, beauty and the labor they required.Roy was a man of detail and organization, a practice that served him well in his years at DuPont and in his hobbies. Another passion of Roy’s were motor vehicles. One of Roy’s great joys in his life was the buying/selling/driving of cars. All makes, models, years. He would often spend his evenings curled up in his chair, with the soft glow of table-top lamp, dachshund on his lap, reading about the latest trends in motor vehicles.Roy enjoyed the technology and science behind new automotive innovations. But his biggest passion was testing these marvels first hand.A passion he liked to share with his wife.Roy absolutely adored his wife Charlyn, a love that was with him all his days.Roy would chauffer his wife all around Parkersburg and the surrounding area.Roy loved to drive, but he loved Charlyn more. Roy was a Southern-Baptist by faith.Per his wishes, there will be no funeral service, rather a small-private ceremony where he will be laid to rest-eternal with Charlyn. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Roy’s name to the Special Olympics of West Virginia.
