Wilda "Polly" Pauline Naylor was born on April 29, 1931, in Roane County, West Virginia to Ebon Olden and Berla Scyoc Payne. She grew up on a farm where she loved working with the animals and gardening. She married Charles William Naylor in 1954. They had two children during their marriage, Kathryn, and Larry. Her husband Charles passed away on June 21, 2019, at the age of 88. They had been married 65 years. She is predeceased by her husband, her parents Ebon Olden and Berla, and all her brothers and sisters - Maebelle Sheppard, Robert Payne, Hazel Starcher, Mary McKown, Janet Payne, Jimmie Payne, and Charles Payne.
Polly lived and raised her family in West Virginia, then moved to North Fort Myers after Charles retired. She was always active in the Baptist Church - Vienna Baptist in West Virginia and Northside Baptist in North Fort Myers. Polly loved singing. She always had a song in her heart and could often be found humming and singing while she did housework, cooked or quilted. She was a great cook, she enjoyed feeding people, could cook almost anything and made amazing pies.
Polly was a homemaker by trade. She was also a talented Quilter and seamstress. When her daughter was a young adult, she would make her clothes that often were commented on - one of Polly's favorite stories was telling how a woman was asking after an outfit Kathy was wearing - where she could buy one - and Kathy replied that She couldn't buy one - it was made by her mother and the woman looked shocked. Polly took a great pride in her sewing. She worked at it like a job, but it also brought her great joy. She was active in the quilt club at Forrest Park - the community where she lived. They would hold quilt shows and she would always have a special project to display. She made quilts to donate and helped make quilts for those who fell sick in the community. One of her more unique quilts was made for her son in law Bruce - it was from a Tie with a large fish on it. The tie was in the center, and she framed in around it to make a full quilt. She had a wonderful eye for free form quilting and could also follow any pattern she came across.
She loved playing Bingo and card games and had great luck. She played bingo weekly with her friends at the community center and seemed like she was winning at least a couple games each time she played. Most Sundays after church and Sunday dinner at her favorite restaurant Mel's - she would be sitting around the dinner table playing Kings Corner or Uno. Polly Loved Christmas. Every year he son Larry would get her a new Christmas ornament - she loved decorating the tree and remembering where each ornament came from and retelling their stories. Her tree was always packed full of memories. Polly was a vibrant person - she loved the color red and had a wonderful laugh.
She is survived by Daughter Kathryn (Bruce) Sherman, Son Larry (Carrie) Naylor, Grandchildren Elizabeth fiancée Alex, Matthew and wife Jamie, Joseph, Emily and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
