Paul R. Westfall, PE, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2018, in Parkersburg, W.Va.He was born in Good Hope, West Virginia, on July 31, 1926, the only son of the late J. Russell and Madge (Davis) Westfall.He was married for 66 years to Eleanor V. (Windon) Westfall, who predeceased him in 2014. He entered the U. S. Navy following graduation from Unidis High School, serving on the USS Orvetta in the Pacific Theater during World War II.Following his discharge from the service, he graduated from West Virginia University with a BS in Chemical Engineering.He began his career at Pittsburgh Coke & Chemical, then moved with his family to Parkersburg to work at Marbon, later Borg-Warner Chemicals.He had a distinguished career with Borg-Warner, holding various positions ranging from process and plant design to site surveys and construction coordination.He served as Manager of Maintenance and Engineering at the WoodMar plant and retired as Manager of Projects in Central Engineering.He traveled extensively for the company throughout the United States, and in Canada, Mexico, Europe, Asia, and Australia.Following his retirement from Borg-Warner, he was an agent for Coldwell-Banker Real Estate. He was a registered Professional Engineer, and was active in the Local, State, and National Society of Professional Engineers.He was President of the State Society in 1984-1985; and was honored as State Engineer of the Year in 1992. Paul was active in community affairs in Parkersburg.He served the Allohak Council, Boy Scouts of America, the United Way, on the Board of the Salvation Army, and on the building committee for the swimming pool at the YMCA.He served Parkersburg Community College (now WVU-P) on advisory boards and personnel search committees.As a member of the Greater Parkersburg Area Chamber of Commerce he was Chairman of the Industrial Development Committee; and was a longtime member and later chairman of the Parkersburg Utility Board.He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and served in a number of roles there.He was also a member of American Legion, Parkersburg Post 15. Paul was a man of few words who generally let his actions speak for him; he was seldom idle.He was a positive role model with high ethical standards and a loving husband and father.Despite failing health in recent years that restricted his activities, he maintained his wit and sense of humor. He was the proud father of three sons: James, of Parkersburg; Brian and wife, Valerie, of Cumberland, MD and Duane, of Florence, SC.In addition to his sons, he is survived by a sister, Shirley Currey, of Ridgway, PA; a brother-in-law, Harry Windon and wife, Shirley, of Fairmont, WV; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Friends will be received at Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Avenue, Parkersburg, on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1710-23rd Street, Parkersburg.Friends will be received an hour before the service.Interment will be at the Good Hope Masonic Cemetery, Route 19, Good Hope, WV following the service in Parkersburg.
