Paul Wilbur Gribble, 93, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Camden-Clark Medical Center, Memorial Campus. He was born November 24, 1920 in Wood County, W.Va., a son of the late Nathaniel Edgar Gribble and Retta Jane Hoy. Paul was a 1938 graduate of Parkersburg High School.He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in WWII from 1942 until 1945.He served with the 654th Tank Destroyer Battalion in central Europe. After his discharge he moved to Akron, Ohio to seek employment.He retired from Alside Aluminum/Associated Materials. Upon his retirement he moved back to Parkersburg to be close to his nephew and was a resident at Cedar Grove Assisted Living.Paul was a member of VFW Post 3383, Akron, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl; former wife, Audrey; sister, Glenna Hellberg; brother, Russell Gribble; and special nephew, Gary Hellberg. Paul is survived by his nephew, Rick W. Modesitt of Parkersburg; niece, Retta Gribble; special friends, Patti and Ron Jones of Parkersburg and George “Tom” and Carolyn Thomson of Akron; and his longtime best friend, Harry Palmer of Akron. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Shiloh Cemetery on Laurel Creek Road off Rt. 31 in Wood County, W.Va. with Pastor Sandy Runnion officiating.Military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 15, Parkersburg.The family will receive friends from 2 – 5 p.m. Saturday at the Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Avenue, Parkersburg. Memorial remembrances may be made to the American Legion or Hospice.
