Martha W. Smith

Martha W. Smith, 100, of Parkersburg, passed away Friday, January 20, 2017 at Wyngate Senior Living Community. She was born in San Francisco, California March 1, 1916 a daughter of the late Forrest and Madie McGlothlin Williamson. Mrs. Smith was a graduate of the former Sistersville High School and a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, Parkersburg.She served as an auditor and retired after twenty eight years of service from the Parkersburg office of the Internal Revenue Service, receiving many awards for her outstanding work.In addition to the IRS, she had also worked for Pure Oil Company and was an avid Bridge player. Survivors include her sister and caregiver, Elsie W. Coleman of Parkersburg; six nephews and several great nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Smith in 1984; five brothers and one sister. A funeral service will be conducted 11 A.M. Monday at the Vaughan Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Reverend George Spransy officiating.Interment will follow in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Sunday and one hour prior to service on Monday.
