Leroy Payne

Leroy Payne, 85, of Parkersburg, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta, Ohio.

He was born in Roane County, West Virginia, a son of the late Litall and Gathey Parsons Payne.

Leroy drove truck for the Teamsters Unions 175 and 505 and he enjoyed going to garage sales and loved spending time with his family making apple butter, and his dogs Sophie and Brutus.

Those left to carry his memory include his two daughters, Michelle “Shelly” Sutphin and Vickie Lee Powell (James); three sons, Kenneth “Kenny” Payne, Robert “Bob” Witt (Laurie), and Chris H. Barker (Lori); grandchildren, Ryan Caskey, Ashley Bickel, Daniel Witt, Johnathan Witt, Kaylie Harader, Jessica Witt, Kaitlin Harmon, Christopher Barker, Abigail Wilson, Katie McKee, and Wyatt Lenhart; eleven great-grandchildren; and siblings, Henry R. Payne, Jack Payne, Donna S. Hamon, Johnny Payne, and Janice Hamon.

In addition to his parents, Leroy was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jane Santee Payne in 2014; son, Kevin Witt; brother, Robert D. Payne; and two sisters, Doris J. Tomlinson and Evelyn C. Folds.

A memorial service will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Vaughan Kimes Funeral Home. Friends and family will gather one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
