John Dearth Junior Nichols

December 1, 1926 — December 18, 2014

John Dearth Junior Nichols (Johnny) departed for heaven December 18, 2014 at Camden Clark Medical Center surrounded by family. He was born December 1, 1926 in Pleasants County, West Virginia near Schultz to parents Carrie Agnes Dearth and John Thomas Nichols. He attended grade school in Schultz and Spice Run, and high school in St. Marys. After several labor jobs, he worked at and retired from Corning Glass Works after 38 years. Johnny married Jacqualin (Jackie) Jameson on September 24, 1950 and they celebrated 64 years together this year. Together they have five children, John Paul (Sheila), Vicki (Kevin Murphy), Kendel (Jo), Rita, and Tracy; seven grandchildren, Jamie, Jessica, Mallory (Steve Bilodeau), Cody, Kaitlyn, Keegan, and Erin Murphy; six great grandchildren, Dante, Kadence, and Kenadie Nichols, Lakin Simmons, and Addisyn and Myles Bilodeau. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Gaynell Lowther, Kathryn Maston, Glenna Mathews, Mary Taylor, and Rose Adams. He is survived by his sister Carol Flanagan and numerous nieces and nephews. He grew up as a member of the Baptist Church at Schultz, but has attended Murphytown United Methodist Church in the town of Murphytown, where he lived, for the past 63 years. By nature Johnny was a good problem solver and learned carpentry and auto repair skills on his own. He built the house his family lived in, including cutting the trees for the lumber needed. He had a garage where he worked on cars, fixing cars for many neighbors and friends as well. Before AAA came along to do the job, he could never pass a car that was broken down on the highway without stopping to help. He operated J&J Tire Shop out of his garage. Johnny was a very independent and principled man who would do the right thing no matter what the cost. He loved his family and loved camping and vacationing with them. He was very thoughtful and caring of all his extended family. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 21, 2014 at the Vaughan Funeral Home with Reverend Mary Zimmer officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome, but the family requests expressions of sympathy may also be made to the Murphytown United Methodist Church or a church of your choice.
