Jean Pierre Fontaine, 89, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away Monday, July 3, 2017 at Camden Clark Medical Center. Mr. Fontaine was born October 19, 1927 at Liege, Belgium, a son of the late Laurent and Adelle Fontaine.At the age of 29, he was the first generation of his family to immigrate to the United States.With his family at his side, he had the hope of a better life in this land of promise.He learned the welding trade and with hard work and determination, he became very successful, eventually owning his own welding shop in Olmsted Falls, Ohio.He later retired to the Parkersburg area to be near his son and family. He is survived by his son, Roger Fontaine (Debbie) of Parkersburg; two granddaughters, Erin Minich (Victor) of Annapolis, Md. and Jamie Fontaine-Gansell (Jamie Gansell) of Phoenix, Md.; three great-grandchildren, Ava Minich, Luca Gansell and Griffin Gansell; a sister, Janine Blackwell of Warren, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death in 2014 by his wife of 65 years, Mariette Pauline Fontaine. At Mr. Fontaine's request there will be no visitation or ceremony. The Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Ave., Parkersburg is assisting the family with arrangements.
