Janet L. Mahaney passed away at her home in North Bethesda, Maryland. Janet and her twin brother, Gene Carroll Mahaney, were born to Donald D. and Florence Jones Mahaney at their Grandmother’s home on Broadwater Circle, Pennsboro, WV, during a snow storm.Janet was a descendant of James Bentley Jones, a Revolutionary War Veteran, who served twenty-eight months with General George Washington. Janet was a proud graduate of Pennsboro High School. She has always been highly motivated and independent from an early age.Working and diligently saving her earnings during high school, she was able to move to the Washington, D.C. area following graduation.Once there, she continued working full-time as she put herself through college, ultimately earning a degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland. Upon retirement, Janet had a home in Pennsboro, WV and the Crystal Lake Community, West Union, WV for several years. Janet was proud of her long career at GEICO and Sallie Mae, where she rose up the ranks to hold senior positions in both Finance and Human Resources. Janet attended North Bethesda United Methodist Church, Bethesda, MD, and was a member of the United Methodist Church, Pennsboro, WV. She was an early supporter of the Mansion at the Strathmore, Bethesda, MD., a venue for the arts and entertainment. She served on the Board of Larimer Davidson Foundation (CEO of GEICO) with Warren Buffett and other notables. She is survived by her twin brother, Gene C. Mahaney of Mineral Wells, WV, older brother, Donald Ray Mahaney of Ellenboro, WV, Sisters-in-Law Marjorie C. Mahaney of Mineral Wells, and Margaret Ann Mahaney of Ellenboro, WV. She is also survived by Nephew, William Donald Mahaney and wife Edieann of Florida, Nieces, Lisa Mahaney Barnes and husband Colin of Martinsville, IN; Kim Mahaney Agosto of Alexandria, VA;Candi Mahaney Bender and husband Pat of Cary, NC, Margaret Kay Mahaney Hardbarger and husband Gregof Pullman, WV and several grand nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Saturday, December 14, 2019 from 12:00to 1:00 P.M.with services at 1:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church, Pennsboro, WV.Janet will be buried at the Ellenboro Masonic Cemetery, Ellenboro, WV beside her Mother and Dad.The Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Ave., Parkersburg, WV is assisting the family with arrangements.
