James L. Hale, 90, of Barlow, OH passed away May 1, 2020 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born June 17, 1929 in Wood Co., and was the son of the late Myrtle and Elbert Hale. James attended California School in Belleville and Parkersburg High School. He served in US Army 2nd Armored Division during the Korean War. James was a member of UMC of Barlow, Vincent and Belpre. He had worked at Union Carbide for 10 years and then 24 years at Marbon Chemical Plant before retiring in 1987. He served his community as a lifetime member of the Barlow Volunteer Fire Department. He loved carpentry and woodworking and working on his farm. His woodworkingcreations, made from Oak, Walnut, Cherry trees from his farm, still adorn the homes of his family and friends. He was a member of the Western Washington County Historical Society. After he married his late wife Mary G. Buchanan on December 11, 1954 he lived in Vienna for 5 years and then moved to his farm in Barlow in 1959 where spent the rest of his life. Left behind to cherish his memory, are his children; Jerry Hale (Lynn) of San Ramon, CA, Leonard Hale (Anita) of Barlow, Dianna Cowman (James) of Coolville and Jewell Hale of Barlow; five grandchildren, Jeremy Hale, First Sargent Jason Cowman, Rebecca Kent, Donald Hale and Amber Lauer; 12 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one great grandchild Nikky Townsend; and brothers and sisters; Elizabeth (Lib) Holbert, Lillian (Babe) Gates, Leana Eaton, Mary McPeek, Doris Moyers, Georgia Wilson, Walter, Wilson (Pete), John Hale. A private family service will take place due to the current health conditions. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Kimes Funeral Home from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM (MASKS ARE REQUIRED).
