Jack Eugene Powell, 77, of Parkersburg, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2018. Jack was born August 20, 1940, in Reedsville, Ohio, a son of the late Ivan Earl and Leah Emiline (Buckley) Powell Marshall, in a house built, as he loved to tell it, on the site of a former chicken coop. A graduate of Parkersburg High School, he and his wife lived briefly in Washington, DC, before returning to Parkersburg to raise a family. Jack was employed for 37-years by the manufacturing company known over time as Walker, Textron, Butler, and ultimately, Wiremold Walker Infloor Services. A long-suffering Cleveland sports fan, his disappointment brought by the Browns was tempered only by the recent successes of the Indians and Cavaliers. He enjoyed bowling, tending the neighborhood cats, waking to see the sunrise, rooting for the Mountaineers, keeping updated on the exploits of his children and grandchildren, people watching, and searching for the next piece to add to his many collections of memorabilia and toys. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Garnet Leora (Freshour) Powell, four daughters, Angela Sheppard (Tim) of Flemington; Sherri Kelly (Jerry) of Vienna; Terri Ludden (Fred) of San Diego, California; and Beth Powell (Jeff Buckner) of Oceanside, California; five siblings, Robert Powell (Edith) of Columbus, Ohio; Ruth Ann Flowers of Belpre, Ohio; Larry Joe Powell (Peggy) of Belpre, Ohio; Deborah Gilkey (Roy) of Pomeroy, Ohio; and Donna Frazier (Bo) of Pomeroy, Ohio;eleven grandchildren, Jeremy Sheppard (Bethany), Zachary Sheppard, Christina Carpenter (H.K), Catherine Kelly, Collin Kelly, Alexandra Altizer (Dylan), Ashley Ludden, Jacklyn Hempleman, Cayley Hempleman, Claire Hempleman, and Rebecca Hempleman, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Eugene Powell. The family is grateful for the medical care he received, particularly from Housecalls Home Health. Jack eagerly anticipated the visits from their caring professionals. The help provided by the staff allowed him the ability to remain in his home as he wished.
