J. “Jo” Althea Eddy, 102, of Marietta, Ohio, formerly of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away very peacefully Monday, December 10, 2018 at Elmcroft Senior Living in Marietta with family by her side. She was born April 29, 1916 at Greensboro, Penn., a daughter of the late Dr. Alexander L. and Emma Mackinson Eddy. Jo was a graduate of Mapletown High School and attended Mountain State Business College.She worked for Mon Power Company in Morgantown for several years.She then returned to Parkersburg and worked for many years for a life insurance company. She got the urge to work for the U.S. Government and after taking the civil service exam accepted a position in Washington, D.C. as a secretary at the U.S. Treasury Department retiring in 1976.She served ten years overseas for Treasury in England, Colombia, Germany and Hong Kong.Before returning to Parkersburg in 1979, Jo worked three years for a temporary employment agency. Her hobbies were traveling, both in the United States and overseas, reading, hiking and volunteering.She was very fond of baseball and football.She was a volunteer at the YWCA in Parkersburg and served as recording secretary for the Board.While in D.C. she volunteered at the American Red Cross, Walter Reed Hospital and The National Institute of Health. Upon her return to Parkersburg, she was immediately involved in volunteer work with the American Cancer Society, the Art Center, American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital where she volunteered for over twenty years and received several awards. Jo was a member of First Baptist Church, Parkersburg where she served as assistant treasurer; was a member of the diaconate; and helped with Vacation Bible School. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Louise Law, Ellie Crowley, Laraine Metheny, John Eddy, Dan Crowley and Bill Crowley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Benitha E.Crowley and Mary J. Mace; and four brothers, Clarence, Herschel, Raymond and Sherwood Eddy. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Avenue, Parkersburg with Pastor Elizabeth Campbell-Malekeofficiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.Visitation will be from 3 – 6 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to services Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to Camden Clark Medical Center Auxiliary or Camden Clark Foundation.
