Herschel Ernest Kimes

Herschel Ernest Kimes, Jr., 87, of Parkersburg passed away March 26, 2017 at Camden Clark Medical Center.He was born August 9, 1929 in Belleville, WV to the late Herschel E. and Oma E. Smith Kimes, Sr.He was a 1947 graduate of P. H. S. and was a Funeral Director and Owner of Kimes Funeral Home until 1977.He opened Skate Country in 1977 and in prior years also operated The Coliseum Skating Rink.He was in the U. S. Navy in 1951 serving in the Korean conflict until 1955.In 1952, he joined The Masons with the Mt. Olivet Lodge #3 where he served as Treasurer from 1963 to 1969 and attained the 32 Degree Knight Templar, Shrine Nemesis, was a member of UC Travelers and was a Methodist by Faith. Herschel was the last immediate surviving member of his family. He is survived by his son, Mark A. (Kimberly) Kimes of Vienna four grandchildren, Matthew A. (Kristen) Kimes, Michael A. Kimes, Elizabeth Kimes and Mark A. (Michele) Kimes, four great-grandchildren, Kendall, Karsen, Katyn and Carter Kimes and two step grandchildren, Sadie (Austin) Lott and Gracie Kupfner. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Marie Davis Kimes in 2006, a daughter-in-law, Cookie Kupfner Kimes, three sisters, Jenoise Pratt, Joyce Wilson, Joanna Kimes and a brother, Glen E. Kimes. Friends and family are invited to attend the funeral service on Friday, March 31, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 5th St., Parkersburg with Pastor Larry Dale officiating and entombment following at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.Visitation will be on Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
