She was born September 30, 1929 in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late Daniel Ernest and Ethel Geneva Crosten Sims. Helen was a 1947 graduate of Parkersburg High School and retired from Parkersburg Savings and Loan Company with 24 years of service as a teller and loan officer.She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, bowling and caring for her family.Helen was a member of Lubeck United Methodist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Karen L. Church (Steve) of Amelia, Ohio and Pamela A. Spears (Bobby) of Parkersburg; four grandchildren, Tiffany Arthurs (Jeremy), Andrew Church (Abigail), Amber Johnson (Robert) and Amy Clatworthy (Rob); eight great-grandchildren, Bryce Arthurs, Camden Arthurs, Evelyn Church, Erika Deem, Grayson Clatworthy, Christian Johnson, Bella Johnson and Max Johnson; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death, in 2014, by her husband of 65 years, Charles William “Bill” Sams; and three brothers, Eugene, Edward and Donald Sims. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2018 at the Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Avenue, Parkersburg with Reverend James W. Martin officiating. Services will conclude with burial in Lubeck Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
