Gloria Jean Thomas, 81, of Marrtown, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 10, 2016.She passed away in the presence of her loved ones at her home. She was born January 2, 1935 at Marrtown, one of thirteen children to the late Charles A. and Stella Grace Province Shepherd. Gloria Jean attended Marrtown Grade School, Washington Jr. High School and was a 1952 graduate of Parkersburg High School.During high school she worked at the former McCrorys five and dime store and continued there for five years.She was employed by the Gottlieb family at both Grays Drug Store on Market Street and Medical Center Pharmacy for a total of thirty-seven years, and was proud to be a WV licensed Pharmacy Technician.After the closing of the pharmacy, Gloria worked at the Kom Pak store on Camden Avenue for eight years, Emerald Isle Café for three years and the River City Coffee on Camden Avenue for nine years before retiring.She was a life member of both the Parkersburg DAV Ladies Auxiliary and VFW Post 1212 Ladies Auxiliary.She enjoyed bowling, reading, and televised sporting events.Mrs. Thomas was protestant by faith. Survivors include two daughters, Vicki D. Hickman (Mark) of Parkersburg and Lowell, OH and Jeanette Sue Blount (William) of Cary, NC;one son, Bill Thomas and wife, Mary, of Marrtown; seven grandchildren, Laine (Kyle), Lynley (Ben), Zachary, Nathaniel, Gabe, Brad and Morgan; eight great-grandchildren, Victoria (aka “Princess”), Kainan, Laylah, Sophia, Tripp, Elijah, Annalease and Paisley; three sisters, Gerry Branch and Betty Stringer of Parkersburg and Norma Dominick of Lorain, Ohio; three brothers, Chuck Shepherd of Chillicothe, OH, Frank Shepherd (Polly) of Parkersburg and Stanley Shepherd (Maggie) of Florida; and several nieces and nephews, all who held a special place in her heart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Gene Thomas in 1999; four sisters, Ella Louise Shepherd, Irene Coughlin, Thelma Riley, and Vonda Olsen; and two brothers, Donald Shepherd and Darrell Shepherd. Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 14, 2016 at Landmark Baptist Church, Parkersburg with Pastor Mike Lamb officiating.The family will receive friends at the Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Avenue, Parkersburg from 2-5 P.M. on Sunday and at the church one hour prior to services on Monday.Services will conclude with interment in the Evergreen South Cemetery.
