George Steven Thompson, 67, of Summerville, S.C., passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on July 9, 2015. George Steven Thompson was born Nov. 26, 1947, in Parkersburg, W.Va., to Okey Wilbur Thompson and Dorothea Mae (Whitehead) Thompson Williamson, both deceased. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Charlotte Kay (Roberts) Thompson; daughter, Shirley Ann (Keith) Houin of Brugelette, Belgium; son, Robert Steven (Jennifer) of North Charleston, S.C., son, Eric Daniel of Belpre, Ohio; grandchildren, Devin, William and Matthew Houin, Andrew Kirkbride, Robert, Stephanie, Dylan and Dakota Thompson and John Saunders; great grandchildren, Hailyn Saunders and Esteban Favard-Houin; four sisters; and three brothers. George enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on Dec. 15, 1964, to serve two tours in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged on March 17, 1971, with the Vietnam Service Medal with two stars, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Vietnam Campaign Medal with one device and Navy Unit Commendation. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on June 24, 1971, and retired with 20 years of service on April 30, 1985. He worked 20 years for the Ohio Department of Transportation and retired in December 2007. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge 50 in Marietta. George retired to Summerville, S.C., in 2009. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. July 18 at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St., Parkersburg, W.Va., with visitation beginning at 1 p.m
