Freda C. Spear, 99, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at The Arbors of Marietta, Ohio. She was born August 1, 1916 in Wood County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Matthew and Ruby Tate Weser.She had been an employee of the American Viscose, Kresge's, Murphy's at the mall, and the Diamond Dept. Store.She and her daughter, Sue, owned and operated the Countryside Greenhouse.She loved all varieties of flowers and became interested in painting at age 82 and especially enjoyed working with acrylics.She was always a very active person; as a teenager she walked several miles to attend Parkersburg High School and in later years, she enjoyed walking in the park and was still walking on her treadmill at age 98.Freda left a legacy that will be hard for all of us to live up to. She is survived by her son, David L. Spear (Deanna) of Washington, W.Va.; her daughter, Mary L. Leach of Vienna, W.Va.; two sisters, Helena Anthony of Belpre, Ohio and Romania Goff (Leon) of Parkersburg; a son-in-law, John C. Earl of Parkersburg; nine grandchildren, Roxanna, David, Susan, Gregory, Douglas, Roger, Johnny, Rebecca and Andrew; ten great-grandchildren, James II, Kaitlin, Kathryn, Tosha, Krystle, Shyla, Justin, Kayla, Seth and Josh; and two great-great-grandchildren, Jason II and Bentley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hollie E. Spear in 1986; a daughter, Carolyn Sue Earl; a granddaughter, Barbara; three sisters, Juanita Miihlbach, Wilda Haynes and Tennis Meyer and a son-in-law, Eugene E. Leach. Funeral services will be 2 P.M., Monday, November 30, 2015 at the Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Avenue, Parkersburg.Pastor Don Yeager will officiate and interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. and Monday one hour prior to the service. The family extends a sincere "Thank You" to Dr. Terri Cook and Staff and to all at the Arbors who took such good care of Freda.
