Doris Dougherty

January 7, 1932 — January 4, 2018

Doris Dougherty, 85, of Vienna passed away peacefully at Eagle Pointe following a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, J. William “Bill” Dougherty. She was born and raised in Rinard Mills, Ohio and was salutatorian of her high school class in Graysville, Ohio. Upon graduation she worked at the Monroe County Courthouse in Woodsfield, OH. She and Bill were married in Woodsfield in 1950. She is survived by 4 children; Deborah and James O’Beirne of Northport, New York, John and Michele Dougherty of Greer, SC, Ann & Stephen Damien of Charlotte, NC and Paul Dougherty of Vienna, WV as well as 2 granddaughters, Katie and Scott Cloonan of Huntington, NY and Erin O’Beirne of Huntington, NY and 2 great grandchildren Jack and Megan Cloonan. Besides her family; Doris had two great passions in life-interior design and fashion. Her love of interior design was evidenced by the beautiful home she maintained in Vienna and her love of fashion manifested itself in her long retail career in the Mid-Ohio Valley. She was one of the original employees at the Grand Central Mall when it opened in 1972. Doris was the Assistant Manager at Embee’s; an upscale women’s clothier. She later moved to Horner and Harrison and also worked at Pianelli’s in downtown Parkersburg. She worked the remainder of her career at Stone and Thomas which eventually became Elder Beerman. She retired from Elder Beerman in 2008 after outfitting residents of the Mid-Ohio Valley for nearly 35 years. She took great joy in helping others look their best. Doris’ fabulous smile and kind, helpful spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Grief never ends but it changes. It’s a passage not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness or a lack of faith….it is the price of love. Doris’ family would like to thank those individuals that helped care for her during the last years of her life. In lieu of flowers or cards the family requests that donations be made in her name to Love and Care Assisted Living 5368 Dupont Road Parkersburg, WV 26101.
