David Lee Spear, 81 of Washington, W.Va. passed away November 1, 2017 at Camden Clark Medical Center. David was born February 21, 1936, a son of the late Hollie E. and Freda C. Weser Spear. David was a member of Fairlawn Baptist Church and a P.H.S. graduate. David was a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving as a helicopter crew chief mechanic.He retired after 31 years of service as a shift mechanic at DuPont Washington Works, where he was also a member of the fire squad.He was also the former owner of his own contracting business and a horse farmer.David was a master at fixing almost anything and was always eager to assist anyone in need. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Deanna Jean Drake Spear; two daughters, Roxanna Lehman (David) of Logan, Ohio and Susan Spear of Vincent, Ohio; one son, David Spear of Belleville, W.Va.; two grandchildren, Katie Lehman and Jamie Lehman; one sister, Mary Leach of Vienna, W.Va.; three brothers-in-law, Robert Reed of Williams, Ariz., Scott Drake (Laurie) of Placentia, Calif. and John C. Earl of Vienna, W.Va.; two sisters-in-law, Karol Williams (Jim) of Tustin, Calif. and Danalee Savaoa of Brea, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Sue Earl; brother-in-law, Gene Leach; and sister-in-law, Betty Drake. Funeral services will be 2 P.M., Sunday, November 5, 2017 at the Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Avenue, Parkersburg.Interment, with full military honors provided by the American Legion, Parkersburg Post 15 will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Saturday, November 4, 2017 and one hour prior to services Sunday at the funeral home.
