He was born at Toronto, Ohio, a son of the late Ralph A. and June A. Wiley Cantwell. Dale was a retired U.S. Navy Veteran after serving 23 years and in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.After retirement, he was employed at Stuart Oil Co., WV Dept. of Highways and Ampac, as a warehouse foreman.He was a member of Tri-City Baptist Church and enjoyed any type of mechanical work, bowling, softball and working in his yard. He is survived by three daughters, Loretta "Lori" Rutherford (husband, Charles, deceased) of Vienna, Patty Sutton (Rick) of Parkersburg and Regina Donaldson (fiancé Douglas Cook) of Dover Ohio; two sisters, Delores Hagerman of Seattle, Washington and Freda Thompson of Lower Salem, Ohio; ten grandchildren, Adam Sylvester (Amy), Katherine Cox (Paul), Faith Dunlop (Callum), Eddie Rutherford (Tonnie), Joey Rutherford, David Rutherford, Sam Sutton (Lisa), Jacob Donaldson (Jill), Sarah Donaldson and Robert Donaldson; twelve great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death on April 27, 2012 by his wife, Dorothy Ruth "Peggy" Cantwell, whom he married on February 7, 1952; by his daughter, Ruth Ann Cantwell Sylvester; and three brothers, Marion, Bobby and Jimmy Cantwell. Funeral services will be 11 A.M., Sunday, April 7, 2019 at the Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Ave., Parkersburg.Pastor Kevin Sylvester will officiate and burial, with military honors by American Legion, Parkersburg Post 15, will follow in Evergreen North Cemetery.The family will receive friends at the Vaughan Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M., Saturday. The family sincerely thanks special care-givers, Phoebe, Allison and Barb, as well as, BrightStar of the Mid-Ohio Valley, Panhandle Support Services, Carehaven of Pleasants and Housecalls Hospice for the excellent care they provided to their loved one.
