Charles Robert VanClief, 75, of Vienna, W.Va. died Monday, March 7, 2016 at the Arbors of Marietta, Ohio. Charles was born October 14, 1940 at Vienna, a son of the late Charles Dale and Mary Cassady VanClief. He was a blacksmith and had worked with oil well drilling equipment. He had also been employed as shipping clerk at Acme Fishing & Tool.He was president of the Steelworkers Union for 23 years.He attended the Independent Baptist Church in Vienna and was a member of Vienna Masonic Lodge 172 and the Vienna Chapter 151, Order of Eastern Star. He was a U.S. Army veteran where he had served in the Engineering Battalion. Charles is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda R. Barr VanClief; one daughter, Vickie Hall (Johnnie) of Elizabeth, W.Va.; one brother, Dan VanClief of Parkersburg, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Johnnie Hall, Ivory Hall, Allison Hall, Elizabeth Hall, Bradley Hall, Bobby VanClief, and Joey VanClief; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Carl Douglas VanClief; a brother, Harry VanClief; and two sisters, Maxine Horner and Helen Leisure. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Avenue, Parkersburg.Pastor Mike Elder will officiate and burial will follow in Parkersburg Memorial Gardens.Military honors will be provided by the American Legion, Parkersburg Post 15.The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
