C.E. "Gene" Manzo, 85, of Parkersburg, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2015 in the Select Specialty Hospital, Charleston, WV.Mr. Manzo was born in Parkersburg, one of six sons born to the late Pasquale and Marie Belle Gove Manzo. Gene, as he was known to many who knew him was a proud 1948 graduate of Parkersburg High School.He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from Dupont, Washington Works.Gene was an active member of many Masonic bodies, including; Mt. Olivet Lodge #3, A.F.& A.M., 32º Scottish Rite, bodies of Parkersburg and Wheeling, and Ben Bey Grotto M.O.V.P.E.R.. He was well known and will be remembered for his dedication to youth sports in the area.He was one of the original founders of Pee Wee football in Wood County and served in many capacities as coach, umpire and assistant to many athletic programs.He could always be found in attendance at his grandchildren's events.Along with all sports, Gene especially enjoyed playing golf at many of the area courses. Survivors include three daughters;Peggy Norman and husband Steve of Parkersburg, Patsy Mundy and husband Lowell of Proctorville, Ohio, Missy Fulmer and husband Bob of St. Albans, WV; one son, David Manzo of Parkersburg; eight grandchildren, Ryan Norman and wife Amy, Regan Bartley and husband Chad, Jamie Smith and husband Dustin, Joe Mundy, Jessica Manzo and husband Mike Monello, Andrew Manzo, Christopher Fulmer, and Caitlin Fulmer; seven great grandchildren, Caleb, Abigail, and Hunter Norman, Eli and Wyatt Bartley, Harley Jo Smith, and James Manzo. In addition to his parents, Mr. Manzo was preceded in death by his wife of fifty seven years, Doris E. Swain Manzo in 2008, and five brothers; Ed, Max, Pat, Don, and Fred Manzo. A celebration of Gene's life will be conducted 11:00 A.M. Monday at the Vaughan Funeral Home, 1010 Murdoch Avenue, Parkersburg with his three son-in-laws speaking. Reverend Sandy Runnion will facilitate services and conclude with interment at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.Parkersburg Post 15 American Legion will present full military honors.The family will receive friends 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Humane Society of Parkersburg.
