Carla Jean Poe

Carla J. Poe, 65, formerly of South Parkersburg, late of Marietta, OH, died June 26, 2020, in the care of the Heartland of Marietta Skilled Nursing Facility. Carla had lived in South Parkersburg from her early years until she was 59 and health issues made the move to Heartland necessary. Carla was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Virgil D. “Jiggs” Poe and Wilma Poe. Carla was a secretary and bookkeeper in the Wood County School System for thirty-six years. She was an ardent lover of animals, feeding stray animals and rescuing ones of her own. Her brother has in his care her last two cats, Davey and Eddy. Carla was a Protestant by religion. She never knew a stranger and always lent a helping hand to those in need. Carla was preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, Roy and Nina Poe; Harley and Effie Heflin, as well as her beloved nephew, Joshua Ryan Poe. She is survived by her brother, Larry Poe, her sister, Kathy Poe, as well as her nephew, Jason Poe, his wife, Kara Poe, and their daughter, Mikhaila, niece, Lindsay Poe, aunt, Ethel Heflin, plus numerous cousins. The family will deeply miss Carla’s tender and loving care for them, as well as her warm andsweet nature. Nothing was brighter than Carla’s smile nor more musical than her laugh, especially when heading out to dance in the discos. She will be interred at Evergreen South Cemetery, next to her mother and father, under the auspices of Kimes Funeral Home in a private ceremony. A more expansive ceremony perhaps will be scheduled at a later date. The family wishes to thank the staff at Heartland of Marietta for the almost six years that they cared for Carla, as well as Kimes Funeral Home for the cremation and interment.
