Betty M. Lewis Williams

Betty Margaret (Lewis) Williams, 95, of Parkersburg, WV died peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, surrounded by her family, under the care of her loving sons.

She was born October 13, 1928, in Parkersburg, WV, daughter of the late Alfred and Artie (Baker) Lewis. She was one of eight children.

Betty was a lifelong resident of Parkersburg. She was a graduate of Parkersburg High School with the class of 1946 where she pursued secretarial studies.

Following high school, she was employed as a secretary for Guthrie-Morris­ Campbell Co. as well as for H. J. Smith Typewriter Exchange. She also worked for the WV Baptist Association before starting a family and becoming a stay-at­ home mother. Betty was an exemplary wife and mother.

Betty was a longtime member of North Parkersburg Baptist Church prior to becoming a charter member of New Hope Baptist Church.

She always had a deep interest in genealogy and was very proud of her heritage. Betty was 74-year member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, (DAR) James Wood Chapter, a longtime member of the Wolcott Family Society and a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants.

Betty was a proud Conservative and enjoyed following local, state, and national politics. An avid reader and a lifelong learner, she and her husband, Neale, treasured domestic and international travel. Her trips to the United Kingdom and the Canadian Rockies were among her favorites. She had many wonderful memories and numerous photo albums documenting each of their trips. No matter where their travels had taken them, both always loved returning to their beloved home city of Parkersburg.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, C. Neale Williams in 2009, her seven siblings including Clair E. Lewis of Vincent, OH, Alberta (Lewis) Meredith of Princeton, WV. and Arthur L. Lewis of Belpre, OH. She was most recently preceded in death by her granddaughter, Kristi (Williams) Jones of Moore, OK.

She is survived by her two loving sons, Steven of Akron, OH and Alan (Kelle) of Moore, OK; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; Brother-in-Law, Kenneth E. Williams and several wonderful nieces and nephews.

Betty expressed a deep gratitude for her long, healthy, well-lived and happy life. Her kind and gentle disposition was a constant throughout her life. Her memory will forever be a reminder of the goodness that exists in this world. She had a strong Christian faith and believed that God led her each day of her life.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the Vaughan Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth Street Parkersburg, WV with Dr. David Carrico and Rev. Troy Nesselrode officiating. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service. Burial will follow at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Betty's much loved Nurse Practitioner, Jessica Owens with Marietta Memorial Hospital for many years of compassionate care. They would also like to thank Betty's wonderful Hospice Nurse, Katie Fleming with Amedisys Hospice for her expert guidance and tender care during Betty's final journey.
